Monday Makers!#26

Hiya all!
How was your weekend? I hope it was a good one.
First of all, I want to thank you all who visited my Layers of Charm blog post and left a comment. It has been a great experience in terms of using only solids, make the quilting a little challenging and finally sharing it with you. I have also enjoyed visiting the other bloggers. It is amazing to see how each person interpreted the pattern differently and came up with a wonderful quilt.  I also want to thank you all who have been linking up with with Monday Makers! I have noticed new names and new blogs in the last couple of weeks which is great. I enjoy visiting your pages and seeing what things you are making/ have made. Once again, thank you very much.

Now to Monday Makers!
You know the triangle scraps I ended up with after making two Layers of Charm quilts. I loved the pillow that Afton of Quilting Mod made for her Layers of Charm quilt so much that I decided to make a matching pillow for the other quilt I made with print fabrics.
I haven't played much with the placement of the colours. It also needs one more round of HSTs. As I didn't use one single colour of solid fabric, I am not sure whether the design will show as good as Afton's. But it will sure be a very happy pillow :)

Have you finished a project last week and starting up a new one? Here is the right place to share it with us!

Monday Makers! #14 and a finish at last

You will remember this project from my QDAD post a fews ago. After my very busy days at work, I turned to this project and finished it immediately.
I really enjoyed quilting this and I love the FMQ design I came up with.
The back of the block looks interesting too.
It is now a lovely pillow.
I didn't have a zipper at hand so I followed the envelope backing tutorial of crazy mum quilts. It is fast and easy.
The pillow measures 18"x18".
So, one UFO finished. The great news, for me at least LOL, is that my office is closing for the Christmas holiday period mid December. I am hoping to be able finish all my UFOs and even start a new project. I am really looking forward to it.

Have you finished any projects last week? Starting something new today? If so, I would like to see them! You don't have to be a follower of my blog, just come and link up!

Quilted pillows

Gosh, it's been so long since I posted something related to quilting!

I started making these pillows, ummm.., one month ago and finished them yesterday.
This is my first attempt in making pillows. The pattern is called Chopped Vegetables by Elizabeth Hartman of Oh, Fransson! She is great at writing instructions. She makes the pattern very easy to follow with a simple language and close-up photos.
I don't think I am allowed to talk about the making process since this is a purchased pattern. All I say is that it is so easy and fun to make.
I can, however, talk about the quilting process. For the pillow back, I have used Matilda's Own 100% cotton batting for the first time. It is a little thinner than Sew-Easy, which I have been using since I started quilting, and leaves some lint behind, but; let me tell you, it sticks to the fabric so beautifully and quilting is a dream! I haven't struggled when pin-basting like I did with Sew-Easy (it is almost impossible to push your pin through without bringing some fibre out to the quilt top).

I saw this star-looking free motion pattern on a quilt on her blog and just wanted to give it a go. I got a little confused in the beginning; didn't know how to turn corners or spread the pattern evenly on the fabric; however, I got the hang of it when quilting the pillow backs. Mine turned out something different in the end but still looks quite nice :)
I have gained more experience in sewing zippers with these pillows. I think they look quite neat.
What is your best tip about sewing pillows?

Also, with this post, I take the process pledge to talk more about my processes, even when I can’t quite put them in words or be sure I’m being totally clear.   I’m going to put my thinking and my gut feelings out there.
Cheers,
Nurdan
